Support homeless and forgotten youth to grow and thrive.

Free Emergency Call Box Helps Homeless Teens

Valley marks "Safe Place" Service at Light Rail Stations, QT Stores

Phoenix (March 17, 2015) Communities across the country, including many in Phoenix, are marking "National Safe Place Week," recognizing an emergency call box program that offers immediate help to youth in crisis.

“Hundreds of young people are living on the streets of the Valley on any given day,” says Cynthia Schuler, Executive Director of the Tumbleweed Center for Youth Development. “Many are fleeing domestic violence or abuse problems with little or no thought as to how they will survive.”

Using the Safe Place call box at any Valley Metro light rail station or QT store, a young person can get off the street and into safety right away, adds Schuler, whose agency manages the program in the Valley.  “In 2014, 128 anxious and frightened young people picked up the phone and got immediate help.”
